• Tidepool Wednesday with Michael
  Hello everyone! 
  
  We finally made it to the farm today!  The weather got a little bit rainy but we did not get too wet. 
  
  Our first farming project will be to make a "3 Sisters Garder."  Native Americans would grow vegetables this way many years ago.  The 3 sisters are corn, squash (pumpkin), and beans.  If we plant these vegetables together, they will all grow better than if we plant them apart from each other.
  
  
   
  
  
  Whenever the Native Americans planted these veggies, they would plant fish or seaweed with the plants for starting fertalizer.  So we went to the beach to collect seaweed.  We then wash the sand and salt from the seaweed to be planted with the veggies in the future.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  Then we prepared the planting area.  First, we spread aged chicken poop over the field.  Then, with the tiller, we turned the soil.  Each student took turns using the tiller!  We should be ready to plant on our next class!

• Tide Pool - World with Michael - Vision and Color

  Hello everyone! 
  

  Today we had a fun lesson about color and our vision, and why we are able to see with our eyes.
  The children discussed how we feel about colors and we also learned how our eye can see with cones and rods, for color and light.  We also learned about the blind spot in our field of vision and how we cannot see color in our perifory. 
  
  
  
  In discussing how we see, and how light reflects a reverse image onto our retina, we made a model to view the world.  Using a camera from 1930, we were able to make a real-time pinhole camera to see the world upside down.
  
  
  For our farming lesson, we tended to our okra seeds.  Later in the class, we took a stroll around the neighborhood to see what is growing nearby and what colors we can find.  The students were able to name many of the plants and how we use them, and we learned a few new plants as well!

• TIDEPOOL 新年度スタート　水曜日「せかい」
  TIDEPOOL新年度スタートしました。
  
  水曜日からのスタートなので、マイケル先生の「せかい」です。
  
  テーマは
  basics of English, 
  Vocabulary: flower, leaf, root, plant, tree, soil, sun, water, walk, skip, jump, run
  
  雨も上がり、外に行ける感じだったので、花の色、香りなど季節に合わせたプログラムです。
  
  クラス中はマイケル先生も通常の英語の話し方と変わらないスタイルで進んでいきます。
  
  
  最初は少し驚くかもしれませんが、子供たちはなれていきます。
  
  ネイティブのスピードと発音に慣れていくわけです。
  
  わからない時は、サポートしてくれるので子供たちも妙なストレスなく楽しんでいました。
  
  英会話ではない、「せかい」を知るので、トピックはさまざまですね。
  
  
  今回は数字のカウントの仕方でしたが、イタリアの話になったりしていました。
  
  Lyre（リラ）の価値とか、イタリアでのマイケル先生のおはなしだったりね。
  
   
  
  今日は植物にちなんだお話なので、外に行って実際確認する前には、室内で植物のことを英語で
  
  少し入れておきますね。
  
  そうすることで、外で見たことが、すぐに言葉に直結します。
  
  マイケル先生のクラスはこれからますます外に行って、実践的になっていきますよ。
