Hello everyone!
Today we had a chance to visit the farm and pick some potatoes!!!
First, we examined the potato plants and compared them to tomato plants. Since they are related, the leaves are similar and potatoes also grow a fruit that looks like a tomato but is not good for eating. Each child dug and picked the potatoes for bringing home. Please enjoy!!!
We also visited our 3 sisters garden to see the progress. The corn is almost done and the beans and squash have grown so BIG!!! Since the corn is almost ready to pick, we tasted the corn silk(hair) which has a sweet corn taste.
Then we discussed how the plants reproduce. One child asked if we could destroy a bee nest so I asked him if he enjoyed pumpkin and tomatoes. He said he enjoyed pumpkin so we discussed how the bees transfer pollen from the male flower to the female flower, thus becoming a fruit)pumpkin).
